Fit for Life: Un F*@k Yourself

Fit for Life: Un F*@k Yourself

I attended a conference at the end of June, and I thought the last presentation was one of the most powerful of the entire weekend event. Most of the other presenters were speaking to business owners and how we can win in an entrepreneurial way, which was extremely beneficial, but the last one spoke to all humans in all walks of life.

It was from 10 - FBBC location owner Matt Wilbur and it goes like this:

The title of the presentation was: How to un-fu#k yourself, and it tells the story that 90% of what stands in our way is us, our thought processes, and the actions we take. I always compare fitness success with business success because I am heavily into creating patterns and systems to improve in both fields.

The fitness part I have down, so I consider myself an expert or authority in that arena, so I am committed to helping others tackle that element of their lives. However, the business aspect is something I go up and down with, and I need constant training, self-improvement, and consistent reminders of what to prioritize in order to become successful.

Gathering knowledge is not power yet using knowledge and taking action is.

Let me explain:

With fitness, everyone knows they need to eat healthy and exercise. We all know that when we eat junk food full of sugar and consume too many calories, we will get fat. We all know that movement and exercise burn calories and that in order to achieve optimal health and fitness it requires proper nutrition in addition to working out. So why are so many people de-conditioned and unhealthy? It’s not because people want to be health risks, carry around extra weight and take medication daily.

It’s the identity you create for yourself, and the thoughts and beliefs you tell yourself.

It’s the word or words you plugin after the term “I am….” That will dictate your success and what you become.

    •    I am - Too busy to meal prep and go to the gym

    •    I am - Not a fitness person

    •    I am - Destined to be fat because it runs in my family

    •    I am - Not capable of sticking to a regimen that will make me better.

All these terms are bullshit, however, the more you convince yourself of them, the more likely they become true.

My biggest excuses used to be:

    •    I am - Not educated

    •    I am - Not a businessperson

    •    I am - Not good with technology

    •    I am - Not good at sales

Again, bullshit excuses that made me create the identity and justify why I am not as successful as I need to be.

So, I STOPPED using these terms. I am a work in progress, and I am getting better. I am relentless to succeed. I am running the best fitness and fat loss system in the world……..

I know that I need to be a better leader. I know that I need to focus on sales, follow up phone calls, and take care of my existing members by helping them get results and making them feel important. Just like everyone out of shape knows that nutrition and exercise will make them healthy.

These are non-negotiable items in order to succeed. I am a coach at heart, so the customer care, and performing on the workout floor part comes easy for me, however running a team, and making sales calls is another story.

Some things that work for me and will work for you are removing certain words from your vocabulary, and thoughts from your mind.

The word “but” is usually followed by a lame excuse. I was on my way to the gym, but there was traffic, but my boss made me stay late, but my friend needed me. Yes, these may be all valid excuses, but they don’t relieve you of your responsibilities. Instead, find a solution to the issues and adversity you encounter. Every problem is a challenge to solve, however, there is always opportunity beyond setbacks.

“I should”, is a great way to shame yourself into going deeper into despair. I should eat better, I should workout, I should make 10 calls a day, I should read daily. So why don’t you? It’s not that you don’t have the knowledge, it’s that you didn’t take action, and saying “I should” doesn’t solve anything, but make you feel worse about the

situation.

“I can’t” is a big one you need to stop saying right now. I can’t figure out how to run a Facebook ad, I can’t get to the gym today, I can’t change a flat tire, I can’t ride a bike. Why not? Again, it’s the identity you give yourself that dictates what you can and can’t do. We are all adults, so there isn’t much we can’t do if we make it a priority in our lives. When we prioritize, make things a non-negotiable, we can and will get it done.

You can’t solve internal problems with external solutions.
