Fit for Life: Be Selfish…Take Care of Yourself

After reflecting on my tour of different facilities that I received treatment in, I realized that self-care should be everyone’s top priority on so many levels.
First and foremost, the doctor’s office carried such a miserable vibe, that I couldn’t wait to get out of there. Everyone is cranky, irritated, and not nice. From the patients in the waiting area to the people at the front desk.

No smiles, just sour faces with the look of obligation. They don’t even look up when you arrive, they just grumble “I’ll be right with you”
The patients all look like they are in pain. Many probably are, and most of them, all of them look severely unhealthy and sick. They are there in search of some relief, not just to get a checkup. Hell, I’m not a doctor, and I can tell they are in for a lifetime of sickness and medication.
In contrast, when I went in for my massage at a beautiful Yoga and wellness facility, I experienced a totally different vibe. In the parking lot, there were motivational signs at every spot, and when I walked in, I was greeted with a warm hello and a smile.
The patrons were all friendly, smiling, and talking to one another. The colors and atmosphere were inviting, and it made me want to be there.
Why am I telling you all this?
Because I want to expose the contrast of different lifestyles and hammer home why self-care is so important.
The doctor’s office was full of inactive sedentary people that eat like crap and live an unhealthy lifestyle. They are looking for their next prescription refill, so they can relive the pain they are living through.
The yoga studio (and Providence Fit Body Boot Camp) are full of people trying to avoid the doctor’s office. They are exerting the effort to take care of themselves by being proactive with their health as opposed to being reactive and waiting for something bad to happen to them before they seek help.
So, what are some things you can do to avoid going down the road to gloom and doom?
- Eat Clean Food. Eliminate gluten dairy & soy from your diet. These items cause inflammation throughout the body, causing you not only to gain weight, but feel tired and lethargic throughout the day. We are running a Paleo challenge at Providence Fit Body Boot Camp and after 5 days I can feel a noticeable difference in my overall energy.
= Drink your water. Yes, something that simple can put you in a better place immediately. Every cell, tissue, and organ in your body needs water to work properly. For example, your body uses water to maintain its temperature, remove waste, and lubricate your joints. Water is needed for overall good health, not just for athletes.
- Take some supplements. I believe that if you eat enough vegetables and good food, you don’t need supplements, however it is very difficult to get the right amount of protein and vitamins daily unless you consume mass amounts of food. I take some powdered greens, a multi vitamin and a couple protein shakes daily IN ADDITION to good quality organic food. You can get what you need at pfbbcfuel.com
- Move: Get 30 minutes of exercise daily. This will make you look and feel better and enhance the dopamine your brain produces. Join Providence Fit Body Boot Camp. We have 30-minute sessions that will burn fat and build muscle faster than any other program out there. - Sleep. Many people do not get enough of this and underestimate its importance.
Some benefits of sleep are:
• Sleep Can Boost Your Immune System
• Gaining Zzz's Can Help Prevent Weight Gain
• Sleep Can Strengthen Your Heart
• Better Sleep = Better Mood
• Sleeping Can Increase Productivity
There are a few ways you can start implementing some self-care routines into your daily life. It may take some time to adopt every habit, and it will take focus and effort, but I promise the return will be worth the investment.
Invest in yourself now or pay the doctor later.
