Fit for Life: What Legacy Will You Leave?

Every now and then I get into a deep-thinking episode and dissect and analyze what life is all about, and what we can do as humans to survive, thrive, and make the world a better place.
I feel that it’s our duty and obligation to take care of ourselves and help others along the way. In my opinion, it’s not selfish to take care of ourselves first, then we can pour into others once our cup is filled. I feel it’s better to give when you are replenished as opposed to giving what’s left of a burnt-out carcass. Therefore, staying fit, healthy, earning money, and chasing success is imperative to help others.

If you have a scarcity or entitlement mindset, you will think of nothing but yourself, and how only YOU can succeed at all costs.
With that being said, I have established 3 rules to live by, and I want you to ask yourself a simple question….
Do I solve problems, create value, and will I leave a legacy behind when my life is done?
Those are the three things I am going to concentrate on daily. I know that if I create value, and solve problems for people, the legacy I leave behind will be a positive and influential one.
Create solutions that solve problems, as opposed to creating or manufacturing problems for others.
I have a saying that negative people will create a problem for every solution.
You know these people; they are the ones that tell you to beware of jellyfish when you express excitement for going to the beach. Or you tell them you are having dinner in the city, and they tell you that you could get robbed, or have trouble finding parking. Whatever the subject is, they will undermine it with a problem, or the possibility of something going wrong. They aren’t solving anything, just magnifying what “could” go wrong.
These are also the people that scam and cheat their whole lives to benefit themselves, by looking for the easy way out. You know the people that still work under the table while they collect workers comp, and the “slip and falls” that net big lawsuit, or the ones collecting unemployment when there are tons of jobs available.
They are creating long-term problems while benefiting themselves. Not good karma.
I stress to my team on a regular basis, and it’s one of our core values to solve problems and be solution-based. In other words, don’t tell me what’s wrong, just tell me how we can fix it.
The main problem we try to solve for people is their health and fitness issues. My team and I work tirelessly to find solutions for our members so they can become fit and healthy. It is in my opinion, that we have the most important job in the world, and if we can’t help you, the next step is the doctor’s office.
We also solve stress-related, mental, and mindset issues. When people lack confidence and go through the daily stressors that life deals us, those issues get put on the back burner when they walk into their “happy place” at Providence Fit Body Boot Camp.
Although we are not therapists, exercise is a form of therapy for some people and that translates to feeling better physically & mentally.
When you are here, you feel like you belong, and our coaches motivate you and inspire you to do things you never thought were possible. I know that deep down, we are solving problems. Ones that not only reprogram people’s perception of themselves but change lives for the better on many levels.
We are not the cheapest gym in town, however, you can’t confuse cost with value.
Our program delivers a high ROI for people that utilize all the resources we have available. In the beginning, I used to question whether our program was too expensive because some people would hesitate to join after hearing the price of a membership.
Not anymore. After almost 7 years of getting people amazing results, they couldn’t get anywhere else, I am convinced without a shadow of a doubt that we create extreme value with our program. (Another core value).
When our program is less expensive than most people’s cable, cell phone, and coffee expenditures, I can assure that your health and fitness is a worthwhile investment that you shouldn’t hesitate to make.
I love the saying that states…. “A healthy person has a million wishes, whereas a sick person has only 1”.
I know several millionaires that were sick and would trade every penny they had to be better, so why not invest the price of a daily cup of coffee into your health BEFORE you get sick.
That’s value, and we create it every day.
As far as leaving a legacy, that’s something that you need to work on every day to leave a positive one.
If one person stands up at my funeral (family aside) and says “Yea, that Matt guy helped me change my life for the better”, then that’s the legacy I wanted to leave behind.
It could be a client, one of my staff, or one of the high school football players I coached over the years, and hopefully, it’s many.
I know there are haters everywhere, and many people don’t like my approach or demeanor on every topic, but I know that my intentions are good on many levels. I wake every day with the intention to make things better than I found them. It may not please everyone, and I don’t expect to, but I sleep well at night knowing I did my best.
Now take some time and find your mantra.
I choose 3 things to live by, but you can pick as many or as few as you wish.
If you can’t think of any on your own, you can use mine, as I feel that by solving problems and creating value in people’s lives, the legacy we leave behind will be a good one.
If you consistently self-indulge, scam, and create problems for others, then it won’t be.
Committed to making the world a better place,
Coach Matt
