Fit for Life: I Need Some WAP

Now that I am in my 50’s my appetite has diminished, and I am now satisfied with getting it 4-5 times per day.
As humans we all have our basic needs, however, sometimes we crave some enhanced needs. These are needs that when fulfilled, elevate us to new levels of performance and satisfaction.

When we perform at a higher level, our basic needs become broader and more complex.
Being in a profession where my daily tasks are physical, my cravings for WAP are stronger than the average sedentary individual, so I constantly seek it out throughout the day.
Once I get it, I become happy and satisfied, allowing me to perform at an even higher level. I feel more focused, and my cravings diminish……for a few hours. Then I need more!!
But it doesn’t end with me. Everyone, males, and females alike perform better when they get their share of WAP.
Why is this you may ask??
It’s because Water And Protein are essential when you are trying to get fit and healthy.
WAP is needed to perform at our highest level, and when we don’t get enough, we become dehydrated, our energy levels dip and it makes it very difficult to stay focused.
WAP is the essentials our bodies need to build muscle, stay hydrated, and perform at an above-average capacity.
Here’s how it works with Protein:
1. Muscle accelerates your metabolism, and a faster metabolism will burn more calories at rest. The formula for fitness is to build muscle and burn fat, and the more muscle you build, the easier it will get to reach your fitness goal.
2. Muscle needs protein to develop. You can’t build a house without raw materials, and the same goes for our bodies. We can’t build muscle without amino acids and other nutrients; therefore we need to focus on getting the required amount of protein in order to succeed.
3. The more calories you burn, the leaner you get. It’s a vicious circle, eating protein preserves and builds muscle mass thus accelerating your metabolism so you burn more calories. Hence you get leaner and look and feel better throughout the process.
4. Recommended amount for individuals is .75 - 1 gram per pound of body weight. So, if you are a 200lb extremely active person, 200g daily will be sufficient.
5. Recommended sources: I like to eat quality grass-fed beef, wild-caught fish, & free-range chicken in addition to protein shakes and eggs. If you are vegan, it will take some work and planning in order to get enough, however, it can be done.
Why water/hydration
Here are 6 reasons to stay hydrated according to the Henry Ford Live Well System:
1. Persistent headaches. One of the first things you might notice when you’re dehydrated is a throbbing headache. The good news? If dehydration is the cause, it should go away shortly after you drink a large glass of water.
2. Sluggish bowel function. “There are water receptors in the colon, and they pull water from the body to make the stools softer,” says Dr. Moghaddam. “If you don’t get enough water, hard stools and constipation could be common side effects, along with abdominal pain and cramps.”
3. Dull skin. Dehydration shows up on your face in the form of dry, ashy skin that seems less radiant, plump, and elastic.
4. Fatigue. If you’re not replenishing your fluid intake, your energy levels could plummet, and you could experience fatigue and brain fog. So, the next time you reach for another cup of coffee, see if it’s water that you need instead.
5. Weight gain. “Sometimes people mistake thirst for hunger, and they eat more, but really they just need to drink more,” says Dr. Moghaddam. “Sometimes if you have a glass of water, the hunger cues will go away.”
6. Dry mouth. If you’re not getting enough water, you can have dry mucous membranes—i.e., a lack of saliva. This can make it difficult to talk, swallow, and even breathe. Luckily, this can easily be solved by drinking water.
So, there you have it. If you are not feeling your best or are struggling to see the results you envisioned for yourself, try adding some more WAP to your routine. This is a small simple step to take, and it will net you BIG results when we do it consistently on a daily basis.
And btw, get your mind right because I know you were reading this article expecting WAP to stand for something else!!
