Fit for Life: If Someone Had a Gun to Your Head….

Who wants to feel like crap, be uncomfortable in their own skin, out of breath and lethargic all the time?
Hopefully, not many people want this for themselves, unfortunately, many people are.

Why is this?
Is now not a good time to start taking control of your own health?
If not, then when will the time be good enough to not only prolong your life, but improve the quality of it overall?
Most likely your answer is gonna be one of the following answers:
I don’t have the time. I have people relying on me to take care of them. (kids, elderly parents, etc.)
Great, then that’s even more of a reason to be your best every day. When someone relies on you, wouldn’t you want to be the best version of yourself? How do you expect to improve the quality of someone’s life when you don’t make the effort to take care of your own? Give everything you got, not what you have left, when you are truly trying to help someone.
Now isn’t a good time, things are hectic right now.
When do you think that will change, and things won’t be hectic? When will you suddenly experience a life that is quiet and tranquil enough for you to start taking care of yourself? Do you think that one day your schedule will be clear, and you will have unlimited amounts of disposable time? Spoiler alert, there will never be a perfect scenario where you will have the luxury of “free time”.
I don’t know what to do.
Ok, so there is a platform out there called Google that could tell you everything you need to know, as well as a site called YouTube where you could watch videos and follow along. If neither of those is appealing to you, there’s Providence Fit Body Boot Camp. We specialize in helping people get fit and healthy, despite their knowledge or motivation to exercise.
I can’t afford it.
Here’s a good one. Most people that say this spend $6 a day on coffee, have the newest iPhone, and a cable bill of over $150 a month. Some even smoke cigarettes, purchase alcohol and have a co-pay on their medication that could send a kid to college, yet they “can’t afford” to better their health.
If you want to do a gut check and be self-aware, the real answer is that you are not making yourself a priority.
That’s it. You either don’t have enough self-worth or don’t consider yourself enough of a priority.
I know this sounds harsh and insensitive; however, I am coming from a place of caring along with brutal honesty.
It’s easy to make excuses, however, if you want something bad enough, you will always a way.
I was on a coaching call with my mastermind group this week, and one of our coaches broke it down like this:
We will never “find” the time to do what we need to do to succeed, we need to make the time.
If you don’t plan, write it down in your calendar, then it won’t get done.
This goes for your fitness program too. If you set vague goals, and don’t prioritize your time to take care of yourself, then it won’t happen.
Another thing that resonated with me is when we talked about growing our business and gaining more members. He said to stop trying to hit a home run and focus on acquiring one member at a time. Don’t think about getting 20, just focus on one.
There are a lot of similarities with building a business and improving your health, and the same holds true with you finding the time to work out every day.
Just focus on getting 1 workout in at a time, then when you finish that one, focus on the next one. Stack the wins, and momentum will flow in your favor.
Don’t think about losing 30 lbs., just focus on 1 or 2. Then focus on the next 1 or 2. Before you know it, you will lose the 30 you set out to lose. It’s simple, but not easy, however this system works!
He ended with a question to another attendee. He asked that if he held a gun to the person’s head, “do you think you could acquire one member? The answer was a definitive yes, because when our backs are to the wall, we can do anything.
So, in conclusion, don’t wait until someone needs to point that gun to your head in order for you to start taking action.
Why not avoid the slow death and a life of discomfort and put a few habits in place to improve your situation?
Think of ways for you to get that first workout in, prep one day’s worth of meals, drink enough water, or to get to bed in time to get 7-8 hours sleep. Then rinse and repeat the next day. Then do it again until you have enough momentum that it becomes a habit.
Don’t let the bullshit excuses you tell yourself to get in the way of making yourself a priority. You are worth it just as much as everyone else you take care of, so put aside the reasons why you can’t and make the time to better yourself on a health and fitness level.
When you do, you will not only feel better, but you will also show up better for the people that rely on you to be the best version of yourself.
Committed to your success,
Coach Matt
