In July of 2023, GoLocal was first to report that Ella McCay was going to be filmed in Rhode Island

Now, GoLocal can confirm where the movie production will take place next.

This week, crews will be on the East Side of Providence — filming at prep school Moses Brown.

The school has been a common movie set as of late. In 2021, Hocus Pocus 2 was filmed there, as well at La Salle Academy, for school scenes.

No parking signs have already been posted by police in the surrounding neighborhood for production crews expected Monday morning.

Filming is also slated to resume shortly on location on Olney Street.

The film will follow an idealistic young politician who juggles familial issues and a challenging work life while preparing to take over the job of her mentor, the state’s longtime incumbent governor, according to Deadline.

It stars actors Jame Lee Curtis, Woody Harrelson, Emma Mackey and is being director by James Brooks.

Latest for Ella McCay

As GoLocalProv reported in February, “moviemania” has been everywhere in Rhode Island

On Friday night, there was a private showing of "Broadcast News" at the Avon Theater in Providence for the stars and crew of “Ella McCay.”

Both "Broadcast News" and "Ella McCay" are directed by James L. Brooks.

"Ella McCay" is now in production in Rhode Island.

Then, on Saturday night, Woody Harrelson was over at Lang’s Bowlarama in Cranston. Harrelson starred in the 1996 hit comedy "Kingpin," which was directed by Rhode Island brothers Peter and Bobby Farrelly.

Lang’s Co-Owner Rich Lang tells GoLocal, ”Having Woody at Lang’s was great..he was so down to earth, really friendly…took photos with our staff and customers. And I’m such a huge fan, so it was a great night.”

Brooks, as well as actors Jame Lee Curtis, Harrelson, and Emma Mackey, joined with elected officials at the Rhode Island State House on Thursday to kick off the filming.
