Jean Michel Basquiat and the Fusion of Street Art & Hip Hop Culture at Newport Art Museum

Our first Art Excursion this year is a stunner not to be missed by any student or adult interested in pop culture, graffiti, or public art. We're traveling virtually to the MFA Boston for a private guided tour of the first major exhibition connecting Jean Michel Basquiat’s explosive work with hip-hop culture and music. Explore the post-graffiti movement in 1980s New York City as street art on city walls and subway trains transitioned to works on canvas recognized and valued by the art world.

Our MFA Educator will lead us through the galleries featuring his works in painting, sculpture, drawing, video, music, and fashion, alongside works by his contemporaries. Together, their work fueled new directions in fine art, design, and music, driving the now-global popularity of hip-hop culture.
