Barrington Hit With Series of High Profile Crimes Involving Teenagers

Barrington, which enjoys an average household income level of approximately $191,000 — nearly three times that of Providence — has proven it is not immune from violent crime, especially involving teenagers.
The bedroom community has a population of 17,153 — and 27.89% of the total population are under 18 years of age.

The report found that "violence among children has soared across the country since 2020, a stark reversal of a decadeslong decline in juvenile crime."
The Rhode Island Attorney General's office does not publish annual data on such trends. Barrington Police Chief Michael Correia did not respond to emails and phone calls regarding a series of recent incidents hitting the community.
Five Beat Up a Barrington High School Classmate
The series of events started with allegations of five Barrington High School students beating up one of their classmates.
The violent incident was captured on video.
One of the five allegedly involved was over 18 years of age and four were juveniles. All were charged by Barrington Police.
The victim, according to Barrington Police, suffered facial injuries in the attack.
That assault took place on April 24 on Upland Road.

Then, this past Wednesday, the Barrington Police Department began a criminal investigation “focused on a juvenile who assaulted a relative 60 years of age or older and made threats to kill the same person.”
Barrington police confirmed that the victim was the individual’s grandmother.
“The juvenile was arrested and transported to the Rhode Island Family Court on an Emergency Petition. The juvenile is currently being held at the Rhode Island Training School. This juvenile was one of several individuals arrested and charged with felony assault on another student,” said the Barrington police in a press release.
Knife at Barrington High School - Lockdown
The Barrington Police Department began a criminal investigation on Friday at approximately 8:35 AM, after a juvenile called Barrington Police indicating they were at an athletic field at Barrington High School with a knife.
Barrington police responded and found the juvenile alone in the athletic field adjacent to the main parking lot. The juvenile was in the back area of the field near the wooded area. "After several tense minutes, Police Officers were able to convince the juvenile to drop the knife," said police.
Police said the incident was isolated and involved no other person. The juvenile was safely taken into custody and transported for an evaluation.
