Bullets Reportedly Nearly Hit Newborn

Shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, police responded to a report of shots fired on Herschel Street in the Manton Avenue area of the city.

Police met with a woman who said that somebody shot at her home -- and that while she was sleeping in her bed, two rounds hit her headboard, waking her up.

Her baby, she said, was sleeping next to her in a bassinet.

Upon investigation, police found more than a dozen bullet holes in the side of her house; police also found projectiles inside the home on the first and second floors.

There were no injuries reported.

Shots Fired in Earlier Incident

On Tuesday night around 9:15 p.m., police responded to the Julian and Amherst Streets -- just off of Atwells Avenue -- for a report of shots fired.

Nearby on Florence Street -- behind Julian Street -- police located more than a dozen shell casings.

A van at the location was found to have two rounds in the driver's side door.

The house on Julian Street had numerous rounds go through the house into the second floor apartment, according to police.

There were no injuries reported.

Police are currently investigating both incidents.
