Couple Carjacked at Gunpoint on Sunday Afternoon in Providence

A couple was carjacked — at gunpoint — on Sunday afternoon in Providence. 

The incident occurred in a commercial parking lot on Smith Street, during what was supposed to be a clothing sale.

About Incident 

Shortly after 4 PM on Sunday, police responded to Advance Auto Parts at 539 Smith Street, for a report of a carjacking. 

Police met with the couple — a man and woman in their 20s — who said they had gone to the location to sell some clothing out of their vehicle. 

According to the male victim, he was showing some clothes to a man, when another male went into a different vehicle, and approached him from behind with a gun. 

The suspect then took the victims’ car and fled. 

Police said that the victims want to press charges.

In June, a man was reportedly assaulted during a carjacking on Thayer Street on Providence’s East Side. 

In March, a man told police he was carjacked by men in ski masks while leaving a club in the city.
