Man Shot in Providence - After Rocks Thrown On His Car From Highway Overpass

A man was shot in Providence in the Olneyville section of the city. 

The victim said the shooting occurred when he went to confront who he believed had thrown rocks from an overpass onto his car while he was driving on Route 6.

About Incident 

Shortly after 8 PM on Tuesday, police were called to Merino Park, off Hartford Avenue, for a report of a shooting.

At that time, a gunshot victim had been taken to the hospital. 

The victim, a male in his 40s, told police he had been driving east on Route 6 when rocks were thrown from an overpass that hit his vehicle. 

According to police, he said he got off the highway to confront the suspects who threw the rocks; he said he then found individuals on the bridge over the highway at the park 

A fight reportedly broke out between the victim and a group of people on the bridge, and a male suspect pulled out a gun. 

The victim was reportedly shot as he attempted to flee the area.

Police on the scene at the park said they questioned multiple individuals. 

Detectives are currently investigating.
