Shortly after 4 AM Monday morning, police said they responded to Fair Street, between Douglas Avenue and Admiral Street, for a report of a stab victim.

Police said they met with a man in his late 40s who had a puncture wound in his side, as well as a wound to his knee.

The victim told police he had been at the Crossroads shelter on Broad Street “smoking narcotics” before leaving to walk to Fair Street.

He told police that he believes he incurred the injury to his knee due to being struck by a vehicle; police say the puncture wound was consistent with a stabbing.

The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
