“If we don’t take these next 6 weeks seriously, we risk all the progress that we’ve made together,” he added.
State Response in Focus
According to Covid ActNow, 73% of eligible Rhode Islanders have received two doses of vaccine, but only about 40% of adult Rhode Islanders are truly “fully vaccinated” — and have received a booster shot or received two shots in the past six months.
“This isn’t a time to panic – we know there will be new COVID-19 variants – but, we also know what we need to do to protect ourselves and our loved ones. With so many people in Rhode Island already vaccinated. Now is the time to get your booster,” said McKee.
"I want to be clear -- all options remain on the table in terms of mitigation strategies, including reinstating an indoor mask mandate. So Rhode Island -- here’s what I’m asking of you. I’m asking you to continue to do your part," said McKee.
"If you’re not vaccinated – get vaccinated. If you’re vaccinated and eligible for your booster shot, get that booster shot. If you’re not feeling well, stay home and get tested. If you’re out in a crowded place like at the mall or a grocery store, strongly consider wearing a mask. Keeping ourselves and our families safe [means] keeping our schools open, our businesses open," he added.
We have the tools to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe this holiday season.
