NEW: Providence Nonprofit Holding Water Bottle Drive for Flint

Pilar McCloud
A Providence nonprofit is holding a drive to collect water bottles for Flint, Michigan. President Barack Obama declared a state of emergency in Flint last week, where residents have been exposed to lead poisoning and other contaminants in the water.

"This reminds me of the 9/11 crisis," said Pilar McCloud, who heads up the nonprofit A Sweet Creation as well as the Providence NAACP Youth Council and is organizing the water drive. "The unhealthy water is causing children to lose their hair and feel very sick because of the toxins in the unsanitary water."

Where to Drop Off Water

"My nonprofit A Sweet Creation is volunteering, and drop locations at the following locations," said McCloud, who listed the following locations:

* Orlo Avenue School in East Providence

* East Providence Police Department

* Youth Build in Providence at 66 Chaffee Street

* Institute for the Study and Practice of Non-Violence in Providence at 265 Oxford Street

"We're taking donations from now until next Tuesday evening," said McCloud. "You can buy cases of water anywhere, you can buy it at your local Sam’s Club or even at Price Rite for a very reasonable price.”

McCloud say she will be delivering the water to Flint next Tuesday, where she said she has been in contact with the Flint NAACP about the effort.
