Providence Man Being Charged in Attempted Kidnapping of 11-Year-Old Girl on Tuesday
Providence Police are reporting an attempting kidnapping of an 11-year-old girl in the city on Tuesday.
According to police, the juvenile and her mother went to police shortly before 8 PM to describe what they say was an attempted abduction.
Police have a suspect in custody -- who will be charged on Wednesday.

The juvenile told police that while she was playing in the rear yard of her house on Admiral Street on Tuesday, when a man described as a "6’0 heavy set older white male wearing jeans" entered the rear yard and threw a white plastic bag in one of the trash cans located at the end of the driveway.
Then, according to police, the juvenile said the male "then proceeded to walk from one side of the back yard to the other side while looking at [her] and looking around the area." She stated that the male then walked back and forth approximately 3 times before "tightly grabbing and yanking ahold of her left arm in an attempt to pull her away."
The juvenile told police that she was able to pull her arm back and she then ran into the open rear door of the residence and inside to her mother. The mother stated that she then proceeded to the front window where she observed the male get into a white vehicle and drive down Admiral toward Douglas Avenue.
The mother told police she was able to obtain a registration on the vehicle.
Police ran the vehicle plates which came back to a 2016 white Hyundai Accent registered in Cranston.
Police Find Suspect
Cranston Police then made contact with the owner of the vehicle who stated her son -- Glenn Chamberland -- currently drives her vehicle and lives in Douglas Avenue.
A short time later on Tuesday, police located a subject matching the description at the intersection of Douglas and Veazie and detained the male.
A "show-up" was conducted on scene where the juvenile positively identified Chamberland as the man who grabbed her in the rear of her yard.
Police arrested Chamberland, who will be charged with attempted kidnapping on Wednesday.
