Shots Fired Friday Night in Providence at Memorial Where Homicide Occurred Earlier in Day

On Friday morning, Providence police responded to a shooting in Olneyville

According to police, two men sitting in a vehicle at the corner of Kossuth and Putnam Streets were shot; one of the victims was pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital.

Shortly before 9 PM on Friday, police received multiple calls for shots fired at the same intersection — Putnam and Kossuth.

Shell Casings Found -- Crowd Disperses

Upon arrival, police located 13 spent shell casings in the intersection. 

Police spoke to a witness — who wished to remain anonymous — who stated there was a group of individuals at the memorial that ran to cars when the shots were heard. 

All the vehicles then left the area prior to police arrival.
