Reports of Shots Fired

At 10:45 pm, police responded to 118 Vandewater Street for a report of shots fired.

As police were in route to Vandewater Street dispatch advised police a second call was coming in stating that the shooting took place next door to 118 Vandewater Street — and a male could be heard stating "you missed.”

Police were approached by the occupant at 118 Vandewater Street upon arrival, who said she heard several gunshots, and went to her window and saw a vehicle drive down the road toward Branch Avenue —  and then observed a male who lives in the rear of 120 Vandewater Street in front of the property yelling "you missed".

Police then went to that residence, where the resident said he was in front of his house when he observed a white vehicle stop, and a male then pointed a firearm out the sun roof and fired 3 to 4 times, and took off.

Police then searched the area and found three casings in front of 120 Vandewater Street.

Landlord-Tenant Dispute — Report of Stabbing

Shortly after 2 a.m. Friday morning, police responded to 404 Branch Avenue for a report of a stabbing.

Upon arrival police spoke with a subject who stated to police that her tenant refuses to pay the rent. Police asked him if anyone was stabbed to which he said "no."

Police then observed a male, with a small laceration to his left forearm with blood dripping down his arm. The victim told police that his landlord came to his apartment, banging on the door demanding rent, and when the victim said he would pay him tomorrow, the landlord became upset and cut him on the arm.

The victim told police that after cutting him on the arm, the landlord hid the knife in the top floor of her residence. Police immediately called for a rescue to respond to the scene and treat the victim for his injuries.

Police spoke with the landlord, who stated the victim was the one who was upset because he was being asked for the rent at which point he attempted to pick up a trash can and he fell. The landlord told police he believed that it was glass from inside the trashcan that cut the victim on the arm.

The landlord was placed in hand cuffs and secured in the rear of a marked Providence Police cruiser while officers continued to investigate the incident. Police were able to observed drops of blood that lead to the rear of the apartment where both parties state the incident took place. Police observed blood on the trashcan lid and inside the trashcan.

Police asked the victim about the trashcan to which he replied that he attempted to use it to defend himself but knocked it over and spilled trash, that he clean up prior to police arrival.

The landlord was asked to give consent to police officers for a search of his home in order to locate the cutting instrument used in the incident.

Police searched the home for a cutting instrument that could have been used in the incident and were not able to locate anything in plain view.

Shots Fired — Police Stop Pursuit on Highway

Police were parked in the parking lot of 747 Broad Street at 4 a.m. when police heard approximately 5-6 gunshots coming from the area of Daboll Street and Updike Street.

Police then exited the parking lot onto Broad Street and turned left onto Public Street, when in the distance police observed two vehicles coming from the area police heard the shots fired. Police were able to maneuver behind the second vehicle, which observed police overhead lights and immediately pulled over. Police drew their department issued firearm and requested the driver to show them his hands. The driver initially complied but then sped off moments after, at which time police began to pursue the vehicle.

The vehicle ran through a red light on Elmwood Avenue and Greenwich Street while continuing at a perceived high rate of speed through Greenwich Street and Bucklin Street without stopping at a clearly marked stop sign.

The vehicle continued on Potters Avenue, taking a left on Plymouth Street and a right on Huntington Ave heading toward Cranston Steet. The car continued on Huntington Avenue overtaking several stopped vehicles at the red light of Cranston Steet and continued onto Route 10 north.

The car then continued on route 10 taking I-95 South and continuing on I-195 east through the City of East Providence and entering into Massachusetts. It was at this time police terminated the pursuit. Police immediately turned off their overhead lights and sirens and returned back to the city.

While returning back to the city, police were notified that there were multiple calls for shots fired (63 Princeton St and 47 Moore St). Police canvased the area and were able to located two (2) spent shell casings in front of 75 Daboll St and two (2) spent shell casings in front of 84 Daboll St (total of four (4) spent shell casings).
