“After the graduation caps have met the ground and the sounds of pomp and circumstance fade, the class of 2024 will officially enter the workforce and embark on their post-collegiate journey,” writes Zumper. “Many factors affect where recent graduates choose to begin their next chapter, including median rent prices, average income, unemployment rate, and the potential for social opportunities.”

They continue:

“Zumper has ranked 100 cities by these factors, and other key categories, to determine the best cities for 2024 college graduates to live. We then assigned each city a graded mark in these categories to show where they fall in the class standings.”

The top cities, according to Zumper? Minneapolis, Minnesota; Denver, Colorado; and Seattle, Washington.

According to their methodology, only Augusta, Georgia and Laredo, Texas rank worse than Providence.

Providence’s Grades in Focus

Sticking with the “college” theme, Zumper gave cities letter grades for seven categories.

While Providence got an “A” grade for “single population,” it got a “D” for median income and median rent.

It notched failing grades for young people - and population of people with a bachelor’s degree.

In April, Providence Mayor Brett Smiley posted to social media, proclaiming that Providence was the best-run city in America.

“Looking to join the best-run city in the country? We're always hiring! Find more information about what positions are open and where you may fit here,” wrote Smiley.

A new study rebukes that Mayor’s claims and ranks Providence 60th in the country.
