More than three weeks after GoLocal requested copies of police body-worn camera footage for the shooting incident that took place on Sunday, June 8, 2025, in Pawtucket, the city’s lawyers released 14 different video segments, but refused to release the footage of what took place before the shooting or the actual shooting.

The body camera video clips released include only footage of Pawtucket police arriving on the scene after the shooting took place.

In many states around the country, body camera footage is released within hours for purposes of disclosure.

GoLocal first reported the shooting. Pawtucket Mayor Don Grebien had promised a transparent investigation; the officer involved in the shooting was placed on paid administrative leave on the day of the shooting.

Toy Gun, Mental Disabilities

The man shot by Pawtucket Police is reported to have disabilities and had a toy gun.

Michael Robinson, a lawyer representing the city, stated in an email to GoLocal:

“Please be further advised that the City contends that some of the information contained within the produced footage is exempt from public disclosure pursuant to R.I. Gen. Laws § 38-2-2(4)(D) (“Records maintained by law enforcement agencies for criminal law enforcement and all records relating to the detection and investigation of crime, including those maintained on any individual or compiled in the course of a criminal investigation by any law enforcement agency… shall not be deemed public.. to the extent that the disclosure of the records or information could reasonably be expected to interfere with investigations of criminal activity or with enforcement proceedings”)…”

From Videos Released, Questions Emerge

Video of Officer Pederzani

When Officer Pederzani arrives, she asks the officers giving aid to the victim where the gun is, and she is told it is “over there.”

She puts on her gloves and finds a small piece of what appears to be plastic.

In one segment of one of the videos released by the City of Pawtucket of the aftermath in which the shooting took place, officers are providing aid to the man whom they shot.

Still, in the background, a man can be heard repeatedly yelling, “He did not do anything.”

The Video of Pawtucket Officer Mobrice

At the 12-second mark of the clip, a witness can be heard yelling that the victim did not do anything. In other interviews with that man, he reiterates that the victim of the shooting was “not doing anything.”
