UPDATED: Shooting Involving Police Officer in Pawtucket, Victim Unarmed

A man is reportedly in stable condition after a shooting in Pawtucket on Sunday. 

 

A Pawtucket Police officer was reportedly involved in the incident on Broad Street.

Eight hours after the shooting, Pawtucket Police issued a statement:

At about 10:23 this morning, Pawtucket Police were dispatched to the vicinity of Broad at Goff for a report of a man with a gun pointing it at himself and others. A Pawtucket Police officer engaged the individual and shots were fired by the officer. The man was rendered aid on scene by officers and subsequently taken to an area hospital by Pawtucket Rescue for a non-life threatening injury to his shoulder. In accordance with the Rhode Island State Protocol, representatives from the Attorney General’s Office along with the Rhode Island state Police and Pawtucket Police Detectives are investigating. The officer has been placed on administrative leave.

 

Multiple sources tell GoLocal that the man shot did not have a gun, but may have had a toy gun.

 

The victim is believed to be a male in his 20s.

 

Pawtucket Mayor Don Grebien did not respond to request for comment at time of publication.
