The United Way of Rhode Island (UWRI) is introducing a wide-range of volunteer opportunities as well as offering its own projects through the Volunteer Center of RI.

“Engaging our community is a big part of what we do each and every day, and April offers us the chance to really highlight the ways we bring our neighbors together with the causes they care about. Whether you’re a business, individual or family, everyone has something to offer and National Volunteer Month is the perfect time to lend a helping hand,”  said Cortney Nicolato, President and CEO, United Way of Rhode Island.

UWRI took over management of the volunteer center in 2018.

Visitors can search by volunteer role, upcoming dates, or for the needs of a specific organization.

There is also an option to create a user account and set individual preferences, triggering notifications based on one’s interests.

United Way is offering the following volunteer events:

  • April 1: May 31: 8th Annual Children’s Book Drive, encouraging businesses, individuals and families to donate books or host a book collection.
  • April 16: Family Volunteer Day: Literacy Rocks!, inviting families to spend time during April vacation creating one-of-a-kind literacy kits that are donated to kids, helping them build-at-home libraries.
  • April 27: Family Volunteer Day: Earth Day Cleanup, joining UWRI partners for “Clean Days on the Greenway” events hosted by Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council.
