United Way of RI to Host Two Free Capacity Building Workshops in April

The United Way of Rhode Island and the Grantmakers Council of RI are offering two free capacity building workshops in early April.

The Workshops

The first workshop, titled “Preparing and Protecting Your Nonprofit from Internal and External Threats,” will be held on Tuesday, April 3, from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m., at UWRI’s 50 Valley Street headquarters in Providence.

Online registration is currently open, and topics will include:

  • Business Resilience: Is your organization prepared for – and can it withstand or recover from – business interruptions?
  • Cyber Security & Cyber Defense: Are you aware of the threats posed to an organization in order to better defend against today’s cyber thieves?
  • Fraud Awareness: Is your organization aware of the threats posed by internal and external fraud?

 

On Monday, April 9, UWRI and Starkweather & Shepley will offer a nonprofit accounting workshop titled, “Insights into FASB Updates and Nonprofit Accounting Challenges.”

The workshop will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick, from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.

During this workshop, participants will learn about the new FASB accounting standard updates and how they will impact their organization.

The discussion will also focus on accounting challenges for nonprofits in Rhode Island, and the ins and outs of grant revenue recognition.

The workshop will be presented by Richard Cole from FASB, and there will be a complimentary networking hour following the workshop.
