Fungs Wins RI GOP Gubernatorial Primary

Cranston Mayor Allan Fung is the winner of the GOP gubernatorial primary.
Allan Fung is the victor of the Republican primary in the Rhode Island Governor's race.

Fung, who beat former Moderate Party founder Ken Block, now faces the winner of the Democratic primary, Gina Raimondo on November 4.

The GOP primary has more than 30,000 voters - a strong turnout, but a fraction of the Democratic turnout.  Fung beat Block 55% to 45%.

Looking to November

Cranston Mayor Fung officially launched his campaign last June, and received the RI Republican Party endorsement, as well as ones from former Governor Lincoln Almond, National Committeewoman of the RI Republican Party and retired State Rep Carol Mumford, National Committeeman of the RI Republican Party Steven Frias, as well as State Senator and Attorney General candidate Dawson Hodgson, and a number of city and town Republican committee chairs.

Just prior to the election, Fung received big endorsements from former Massachusetts Governors Mitt Romney and Bill Weld.

Over the course of the campaign, Fung outraised Block by a nearly 2.5 to 1 in the GOP primary and outraised Block in the last filing period 6 to 1.
