Couple on Date Robbed at Knifepoint at Waterplace Park Restaurant

A couple was robbed — and threatened with a knife — while on a date at Waterplace Park in Providence on Thursday night.  

About Incident 

Shortly after 8 PM on Thursday, Providence Police were called to Exchange Street at Waterplace Park for a report of a robbery at knifepoint.

According to police, the female victim said she had been sitting outside with her boyfriend at the River Social restaurant, when an unknown man came up to them, grabbed her purse off a chair, and took off. 

She said that along with her boyfriend, they followed the suspect and confronted him, at which time he displayed a knife and told them not to follow him.

At that time, the couple contacted police regarding the robbery. 

Officers canvassing the scene said that a purse matching the description was later found discarded by the Citizens Building along Canal Street. 

Detectives are investigating the incident. 

The suspect was described as a white male wearing a black baseball cap and black sneakers.
