Bryant Football Falls to Stony Brook 35-10 in Season Opener

The Bryant Bulldogs football team fell to Stony Brook 35-10 in the season opener Thursday night on Long Island. 

"I thought that the effort was there but the depth wasn't. Our guys competed and they didn't give up. There were a lot of good things that we put on film tonight. We're going to learn from the breakdowns we had. That's a playoff-caliber football team we played tonight it was a good learning experience for our guys,” said head coach Chris Merritt after the game.

The Bulldogs open the season with a record 0-1, while Stony Brook starts 1-0.

Bryant Falls to Stony Brook

The Seawolves scored first when Synceir Malone picked off Bryant quarterback Chris Hindle and returned it 22-yards for a touchdown to take a 7-0 lead.

Hindle completed 14 of 25 passes for 98 yards in just his second career start.

After the Bulldogs got on the board with a 49-yard field goal, Stony Brook answered with an 11-play, 73-yard drive to take a 14-3 lead with 5:13 left in the half.

The Seawolves would take a 14-3 lead into the break.

In the second half, Stony Brook would put the game away by scoring on three of its four possessions to take a 35-3 lead.

Next Up

Bryant returns to action on Saturday, September 7 when they travel to Albany to take on the Great Danes.

Game time is set for 7 p.m.
