Central Falls, PawSox to Honor Baseball Hall of Famer Hemond

Roland Hemond will be honored by Central Falls and the PawSox
Baseball Hall of Famer Roland Hemond will be honored by the Pawtucket Red Sox and the City of Central Falls for his time as a baseball executive.

On Friday, August 3, Central Falls Mayor Diossa will present Hemond with a key to the city, and name the Little League Field at Higginson Park in his honor.

The ceremony will take place at 12 p.m.

Hemond will also throw out the first pitch at McCoy Stadium before the Pawtucket Red Sox take on the Rochester Red Wings at 7 p.m.

About Hemond

Hemond earned a World Series ring during his time as the assistant scouting director for the 1957 Milwaukee Braves.

While serving as the General Manager of the Chicago White Sox from 1970-1985, Hemond was responsible for hiring current Red Sox President of Baseball Operations, Dave Dombrowski.

Hemond is a three-time winner of Major League Baseball's "Executive of the Year" award (1972, 1983, 1989).

In 2011, Hemond was awarded the Buck O’Neil Lifetime Achievement Award for "the profound impact he has had on the game, for his baseball intelligence as a keen talent evaluator and in building winning teams, and to the universal respect he has earned for mentoring generations of baseball executives, past and present."
