Coventry Holds On

With the game tied at two in the top of the fifth inning, Coventry’s Jake Mather hit a solo home run off the light post in left field to put Rhode Island up 3-2.

In the bottom of the sixth, MA's Cam Sime led off with a hit into left field, but would be thrown out at second by Logan Lama while trying to stretch the hit into a double.

Coventry got their second out when MA's Owen Salvatore got a base hit, and tried to advance to second on a throwing error.

After a coaches challenge, Salvatore was ruled out at second base after he was tagged while having his foot off the bag.

Coventry sealed the game when pitcher Anthony Colucci got MA's Roshan Warriar to fly out to first base.

The New England Championship win is Rhode Island's seventh title all time.

Coventry's Run

Coventry entered the championship game with a record of 3-1 after beating New Hampshire 6-5 on Friday.

Rhode Island's only loss came against Pittsfield last week, falling 10-1 on Wednesday.

Prior to that game, Coventry beat both Connecticut and Vermont 10-0.

Throughout their run, they were led by Tommy Turner, who had four hits in those two games, along with three RBIs, while Jake Mather also had four hits and three RBIs.

Against Connecticut, Turner pitched four innings of no-hit ball, while Logan Lama and Mather combined to hold Vermont to just three hits over five innings.
