After the game was tied at 11 midway through the first half, URI pulled ahead 18-16 with 5:17 left to play in the half.
From that point, Rhode Island went on a 10-3 run capped off by a Fatts Russell layup with 14 seconds left to make the core 32-19.
The Rams would take that lead into the break.
In the second half, Manhattan would cut URI’s lead to nine points on six different occasions.
The second to last time came with 3:42 left to play when the Jespers got a jumper from Warren Williams to make the score 68-59.
The Ram would build their lead back to double figures by scoring three straight points on two free throws from Down and a layup from Cyril Langevine.
Langevine finished the game with seven points and nine rebounds.
Manhattan would get within seven points with 15 seconds left, but URI would seal the win.
