NEW: Barrington Beats Kentucky 6-1 to Avoid Elimination From World Series

Barrington Little League avoided World Series elimination on Saturday afternoon, beating Kentucky 6-1 at Lamade Stadium in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Barrington is now 11-0 in elimination games.

They will now face the loser of Sunday’s game between Hawaii and New Jersey on Monday at 3 p.m.

Barrington’s Offense Comes Alive

After being no-hit in the World Series opener on Friday morning, Barrington’s offense came alive in the fourth inning of the second game.

With the game tied at one, Barrington’s Miles Fontaine hit an RBI double to score Alex Anderson and give Rhode Island a 2-1 lead.

Barrington would add another run when Cullen Crain hit a ground ball to third base, but Kentucky’s Matthew Escalera was unable to handle it allowing Fontaine to score and give RI a 3-1 lead.

Still, in the fourth inning, Barrington would add two more runs when Lucas Tanous belted a line-drive double to center field, scoring Blake Dolan and Crain to take a 5-1 lead.

Barrington would add one more run in the bottom of the fifth when Tanous hit an RBI single to right field to score Fontaine.

Tanous had two doubles, a single and three RBIs in the game, he also scored a run. 

In the top of the sixth inning, Kentucky put two men on with one out, before Barrington was able to seal the win. 

Barrington pitcher Owen Pfeffer through a complete game, giving up just two hits, and striking out seven.

Barrington’s Run

Barrington is the fifth Rhode Island team in the last six years to reach the World Series joining Cumberland, Cranston West, Warwick North, and Coventry.

Barrington advanced to the Little League World Series after beating Goffstown, New Hampshire in the regional final in Bristol this past Saturday.

The Goffstown coach claims Barrington should have been disqualified for stealing signs.

The Barrington team denies the charges.

With the loss to Virginia, they now face elimination on Saturday.
