Patriots Injured Receiving Corps Accounts for 167 Catches, 18 TD's
Julian Edelman expected to return for playoffsTo say the New England Patriots are banged up, is an understatement. That goes double for the offensive side of the ball, where seemingly everybody but Tom Brady has missed time or has played multiple positions due to others being injured.
It all started with the offensive line with Nate Solder going out very early on in the season and Bryan Stork missing the first nine weeks with a concussion. Toss in Marcus Cannon missing a couple of games and Sebastian Vollmer missing a couple of games and it all adds up to the Patriots using nearly 30 different offensive line combinations so far this season.
However, the injuries that are now taking a toll are the injuries to the receiving core. Julian Edelman broke his foot in the game against the Giants, Danny Amendola went out with a leg injury against Buffalo and most recently Rob Gronkowski suffered a bruised knee against Denver, though everyone in New England feared the worst.
All three are expected back, Edelman for the playoffs, Amendola potentially this week, and Gronkowski maybe in a week or two, no definite time table has been set.
Until then, the Patriots have a combined 167 catches and 18 touchdowns in street clothes with five games left to play and the number one seed in the AFC hanging in the balance.
GoLocal teams up with GraphIQ to take a closer look at what the Patriots offense is missing.
8 Plays That Define the Patriots Season - in Vines
Opening Night
The Patriots raised the championship banner and beat the Steelers 28-21 at Gillette Stadium.
Brady to Gronk
Tom Brady to Rob Gronkowski has beena theme of the last several seasons. It continued in the Pats 36-7 Thursday Night Win over Miami.
Trick Play gone wrong
The Patriots beat the Colts 34-27 in week 6 but the game will always be remembered as the Colts trick play game.
Dion Lewis
It's bittersweet as Lewis is out for the season but he had a great impact on the offense in the first half. Who will step up for him in the second half of the season?
Defense Making Plays
This strip sack got the Patriots off to a good start against the rival Jets in what ended up being a close game. This is just one play, but the defense has made plays all season despite the massive losses in the off season.
Brady 400
The Patriots rolled the Jacksonville Jaguads 51-17. The game saw Tom Brady throw his 400th touchdown pass.
Air Amendola
The Patriots beat Buffalo 40-32 thanks in part to this incredible catch from Danny Amendola. Buffalo was coming back in this game and if Amendola doesn't make this catch, they would have likely gotten the ball back.
Brady's Back
After fighting off a 4 game suspension, Tom Brady makes his first appearence at Gillette Stadium for pre game warm ups before the season opener. When we look back at the end of the year, Brady's return could be the single biggest moment of the Patriots season.
