Patriots to Release Kicker Stephen Gostkowski, According to Reports

The New England Patriots have released kicker Stephen Gostkowski, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

Gostkowski played just four games last season before being placed on injured reserve with a hip injury. He had surgery in the offseason.

Releasing Gostkowski saves the Patriots approximately $4.8 million in cap space for 2020.

Special teams captain Matthew Slater is now the longest-tenured Patriot.

New England does not have another kicker on their roster.

Gostkowski with Patriots

Gostkowski has been the Patriots kicker since 2006 when he took over for Adam Vinatieri.

Over the course of his career, Gostkowski played in 204 games, all with the Patriots.

He made 374 of 428 field goals and 653 of 664 extra points and helped the Patriots win three Super Bowls and go to five.

Prior to being placed on injured reserve last season, Gostkowski had made 7 of 8 field goals, but just 11 of 15 extra points.

He is the franchise’s all-time leading scorer with 1, 775 points.
