Former Providence College men’s basketball assistant coach Bob Walsh is returning to the Friars as an assistant coach to Ed Cooley.

Walsh’s addition to the coaching staff comes just weeks after he served as an assistant coach to Cooley on the U.S. Pan-American Games team that won a bronze medal.

"Bob and I came up in our business together when I was a restricted earnings coach and he was a manager, we were exchanging film during the old Big East and I would stop in and say hi to coach Walsh all the time and I would go to his house and exchange film,” said Cooley about Walsh in 2016 after the Friars win over Walsh’s Maine Black Bears.

Walsh’s Career

Walsh served as an assistant coach at Providence College for seven seasons under Tim Welsh.

“I was 26 when I was coaching at Providence, I grew up there,” Walsh told GoLocalProv in 2016 when he returned to PC as the head coach of Maine.

Following his stint at PC, Walsh coached Rhode Island College to eight straight NCAA Division III Tournaments and six Little East Conference Championships.

In his RIC career, he compiled an overall record of 204-63.

He was recently named to the Little East Hall of Fame.

In 2014, Walsh jumped to Division I as the head coach of the University of Maine.

At Maine, he went 24-100 in four seasons and left the program in 2018, as GoLocalProv reported.

Back in May, Walsh took over the IMG post-grad team.
