NEW: PC Basketball Legend DiGregorio to be Inducted Into National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame

Former Providence College basketball star Ernie DiGregorio will be inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2019.

DiGregorio will be enshrined on November 24 in Kansas City.

DiGregorio’s Career

DiGregorio led the Friars from 1970 to 1973.

He averaged 20.5 points and a program-record 7.7 assists per game over his career earning All-America accolades in each of his three varsity seasons. 

As a senior, he averaged 24.5 points per game and led PC to the Final Four and earning ECAC Player of the Year and NCAA East Regional Most Outstanding Player honors. 

DiGregorio was the third overall pick in the 1973 NBA Draft by the Buffalo Braves.

He played five seasons in the NBA for the Braves, Lakers and Boston Celtics before suffering a knee injury.

Other inductees include Indiana’s Calbert Cheaney, Duke’s Shane Battier, Purdue’s Terry Dischinger, UNLV’s Larry Johnson, and Stanford’s Todd Lichti.

Former coaches Homer Drew, Lute Olson, and Rick Majerus round out the class.
