PC Basketball Gets Commitment from 4-Star Guard Ashton-Langford

Providence College basketball received a commitment from four star point guard Makai Ashton-Langford just a week after he decommitted from Connecticut. 

Ashton-Langford, a Worcester native, is ranked by ESPN as the 36th best player and the 10th best guard in the country. He is ranked as a four star recruit by ESPN, Rivals and Scout.com.

He made the announcement on his twitter account late Monday night. 

Makai Ashton-Langford 

Ashton-Langford originally committed to UConn back in September. He decomitted after UConn let go of his lead recruiter associate head coach Glen Miller. Previously, Miller Coached at Penn and Brown -- he was one of Brown's most successful head coaches.

“I would like to thank the University of Connecticut for the opportunity, but due to recenter turn of events I have been granted my release,” Ashton-Langford said on twitter following his release. 

Ashton-Langford spent his final year of high school at Brewster Academy leading them to a 33-0 record, a NEPSAC AAA Championship and a National Prep Championship. 

Before Brewster, he spent two years at Cushing Academy in NEPSAC Class AA. 

Ashton-Langford started his high school career at Worcester’s St. Peter-Marian as a member of the Class of 2016 before re-classifying to 2017 when he went to Cushing. 

He was a major part of the Mass Rivals team that went 21-0 in July and finished it off by winning the 2016 adidas Uprising Las Vegas Summer Championship. 

Ashton-Langford is 54-0 in his last 54 games. 

PC’s Incoming Class of 2017 

The commitment by Ashton-Langford gives the Friars one of the best incomign recruiting classes in the country. According to the 24/7 Sports Composite National Rankings, Providence has the 14th best recruiting class in the nation and the second best in the Big East, behind only Xavier who rank 9th. 

He will join forward Nate Watson and center DaJour Dickens as part of the incoming class of 2017. 

Providence still has one scholarship left due to the departure of Ricky Council II.
