PC’s Biggest Surprise — Scoring Balance in the Big East
Devin Carter has been the #1 or #2 scorer in four of the Friars 6 Big East games. PHOTO: PCThe Providence College men’s basketball is in uncharted waters. For starters, the Friars never started the season 4-0 in the Big East in the previous 40-plus years.
Now, after a resounding win over UConn - and escaping with a victory over St. John's - the Friars are 6-0, and the secret to the success is that PC has had unprecedented balanced scoring.
Last year's Friars had balanced scoring, but through the first six conference games this season, this team has achieved unusual parity.
The NBA scouts are now hovering around PC’s Bryce Hopkins. The numbers show that Hopkins has led the Friars in scoring three times in those six games, but taking a look at the top two scorers per game, they also show the Friars are one of the most balanced teams in history.
Hopkins finished as the top #1 or #2 scorer three times. And Devin Carter finished in the #1 or #2 slot four times. Ed Croswell finished #1 or #2 three times.
And Noah Locke has done it twice, and Jared Bynum did it once.
Here is the breakdown:
Game 1 - Seton Hall
Bryce Hopkins 24 points
Ed Croswell 21 points
Game 2 - Marquette
Bryce Hopkins 29
Devin Carter 20
Ed Croswell 20
Game 3 - Butler
Devin Carter 21
Ed Croswell 15
Game 4 DePaul
Devin Carter 22
Jared Bynum 18
Game 5 UConn
Bryce Hopkins 27
Noah Locke 17
Game 6 St. John’s
