Red Sox Acquire Ace Pitcher Chris Sale from White Sox

Chris Sale
The Boston Red Sox acquired left-handed pitcher Chris Sale from the Chicago White Sox in a blockbuster deal, according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

Sale recorded 17 wins during the 2016 season with an ERA of 3.34 in 226 innings pitched.

He has finished in the top six of the AL Cy Young voting in each of the last five seasons, but has never made it to the playoffs.

The deal went down during Tuesday's winter meetings that are taking place at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland.

In acquiring Sale, the Red Sox traded top prospect, infielder Yoan Moncada, and pitcher Michael Kopech, as well as two other prospects.

According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the two other prospects are Luis Alexander Basabe and Victor Diaz.

The Sox beat out the Washington Nationals, who were not willing to give up their top prospect Trea Turner.

Impact on Red Sox Rotation

With the Red Sox, Sale will join Cy Young Award winner Rick Porcello and David Price, as well as Eduardo Rodriguez and Steven Wright, making a potential Red Sox pitching rotation look like this:

  • Chris Sale, LHP
  • Rick Porcello, RHP
  • David Price, LHP
  • Steven Wright, RHP
  • Eduardo Rodriquez, LHP

Last season, the Red Sox rotation finished eighth best in the majors with an ERA of 4.22 en route to an AL East title. The Sox were swept by the Cleveland Indians in the ALDS.
