Revs' Playoff Hopes Take Hit After 2-0 Loss to Columbus

In a game the New England Revolution (9-13-9) really needed to win to make the playoffs, they were shut out, falling 2-0 to the (7-11-11 ) Columbus Crew on Sunday night at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. 

The Revs now sit in seventh place in the Eastern Conference, one point back of sixth place D.C. United. The Crew are five points back. 

New England has three games remaining in their season.

Shut Out in Columbus

The Crew got on the board in the 42nd minute when Ola Kamara buried a shot inside the left post to give the Crew a 1-0 lead. A lead in which they would take into the locker room at the half. 

In the 84th minute of the game, Referee Chris Penso ruled that New England’s London Woodberry shoved Kamara inside the box and awarded Kamara a penalty kick. 

Kamara would find the back of the net for his second goal of the game and seal the 2-0 win for Columbus. Kamara's two goals in the game would be his 14th and 15th goals of the season. 

The Revs were unable to get much going offensively in the game, taking a total of nine shots, five of which were on net. 

On the other hand, the Columbus Crew took fired 21 shots, ten of which were on net. 

Each team had four corner kicks. 

Next Up 

The Revolution return to action on Saturday, October 1 when they host Sporting KC at Gillette Stadium. 

Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
