The New England Revolution’s playoff chances likely came to an end on Sunday following a 2-1 loss to the last place Chicago Fire.

With one game to go, the Revolution need to beat the Montreal Impact on Sunday, October 23 and make up a 12 goal differential against Philadelphia in order to win the tie breaker.

The Fire are now 7-16-10 on the season while the Revolution drop to 10-14-19 on the season.

Falling Short

After New England’s Diego Fagundez tied the game at one late in the first half, Chicago’s Luis Solignac was given a straight red card in the 54th minute after tripping New England’s London Woodberry.

Chicago would play with ten men for 20 minutes, but the Revolution would not be able to take advantage.

In the 73rd minute, New England’s starting goaltender Brad Knighton was ejected from the game for taking down Chicago's David Accam during a goal scoring opportunity. With Knighton gone, backup goaltender Bobby Shuttleworth came in off the bench.

Minutes later, Chicago's Accam scored on a breakaway in the 80th minute against Shuttleworth to give the Fire a 2-1 lead.

The win was Chicago's first since September 3.
