After leading by 17 points, 50-33, at the break, the Rams saw their lead cut to six, 75-69 with 6:33 left to play after Alabama’s Galin Smith converted a layup.

Rhode Island would then get back-to-back baskets from Jeff Dowtin and Tyrese Martin to push their lead back up to ten points, 79-69, with 5:27 to go.

The Crimson Tide would get back within five, 81-76, on a layup by Javian Davis with 3:28 to play in the half.

However, Rhode Island would seal the win when Russell converted four straight free throws, and Dowtin would get another jumper to go to give the Rams an 87-76 lead with 1:27 to play.

Free throws were a big part of Rhode Island’s victory as the team got to the charity stripe 26 times, and knocked down 21 of their free throws.

The Crimson Tide would only score three points the rest of the way as Rhode Island went on to win 93-76.
