Brown Stays Hot, Earn Big 79-76 Win Over Sacred Heart

The Brown Bears men's basketball team (7-6) defeated the (6-6) Sacred Heart Pioneers 79-76 on Sunday afternoon at the Pizzitola Center. Brown has now won four straight games and six of their last seven.

Sacred Heart's Cane Broome knocked down a three-pointer to tie the game at 72 with 50 seconds left in the game. After a Sacred Heart time out, Brown's Tavon Blackmon took the ball hard to the basket and laid it in to put the Bears up 74-72 with 32 seconds left. Sacred Heart would hang around in the last thirty seconds but Blackmon and Steven Spieth would knock down clutch free throws and put the game away.

The Bears were led by sophomore Leland King who netted 19 points and pulled down nine rebounds  in 21 minutes of action. Steven Spieth, Rafael Maia and Tavon Blackmon all followed up  with 13 points in the contest. Blackmon also added eight assists and three steals for the Bears. 

The Pioneers were led by Cane Broome who led all scorers with 23 points in the game. Broome also added five rebounds, four assists, two blocks and three steals in the loss.

Brown returns to action on Wednesday, December 31 when they travel to Kingston to take on the instate rival URI Rams. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
