Sebastian Thomas’ Late 4-Point Play Leads URI Over Temple

The University of Rhode Island men's basketball team played its last out-of-conference game Saturday night against Temple in Springfield, Massachusetts, and URI Rams star Sebastian Thomas gave Archie Miller an early Christmas gift.

The Rams led by 16 in the second half, but Temple raced back and, with under 6 minutes to go, went up 72-71.

With the game tied 79-79 in the final seconds, it was Thomas to the rescue.

First, Thomas hit a deep 3-pointer with 20 seconds left in the game and made it a four-point play as he was fouled on the shot, giving the Rams an 83-79 lead.

After a Temple miss, Thomas was fouled again and hit two free throws, for the final score of 85-79.

Thomas, who scored the last 6 points, finished with 20 points and 10 assists.

The Rams are now 11-1 on the season, and Temple falls to 7-5.

URI also got a big game from center Javonte Brown, who scored 21 points and added 10 rebounds.

 

Defense on Mashburn

Temple has been led by top scorer Jamal Mashburn, Jr. He is the son of the former NBA star. 

He came into the game averaging 21 points a game.

The Rams held him to 14 points on 5-20 shooting.
