Eight Days That Will Tell Us a Lot About URI Men’s Basketball Team

Between December 2 and December 10, the University of Rhode Island (URI) men’s basketball team plays three critical games that will provide a significant peak under the proverbial tent regarding how this season will progress.

Coming into this three-game run, the Rams will have already played seven games against the likes of the Fairfields and Franklin Pierces of the world.

Three Games

On December 2, the Rams host Yale — a team that is ranked pre-season second in the Ivy League. Yale lost its best player to the transfer portal 7-0, Danny Wolf, who headed to Michigan.

The Rams beat Yale 76-72 last season. A loss this year against a weaker Yale squad would be a panic button kind of loss.

URI, a mid-major team, needs to show it has begun the rebuilding after a 12-20 season last year.

Five days after Yale on Saturday, December 7, the Rams face the Providence College Friars at the Ryan Center. The Rams were blown out on the rood at Providence 84-69 last season.

Arguably this year’s Friars are far more talented, with multiple 4 and 5-star recruits and transfers. The question is will Friar Coach Kim English have the mix of talented Friars integrated into a cohesive squad by the time of the trip to Kingston.

On Tuesday, December 10, the Rams will play Brown, a year after Rhode Island lost an embarrassing game to Brown University at home 67-64.

The Rams will need to beat the Bears in Providence.

Last year, Archie Miller’s squad lost two of these three games.

This year, the Rams need to beat Yale and Brown, like A-10 teams are supposed to do. A competitive score with PC is a must. The game is at home, and the Rams need to show that they can compete.

Another 1-2 record would be a major setback for the Rhode Island program.
