Shooting Woes Cost Rams

Trailing by three at the half, the Rams tied the game at 35 on a three-pointer from Tyrese Martin.

However, from there it was all Maryland.

The Terms went on a 27-7 run to take a 15 point lead, 57-42, on a layup by Anthony Cowan.

Rhode Island would get back within 12, 60-48, following another three by Martin with 6:27 to play, but would not get any closer.

Rhode Island shot 7-of-34 from the floor and 5-of-12 at the line in the second half.

Jeff Dowtin led URI with 14 points in the game, but it came on 5 of 17 shooting from the field.

Jermaine Harris was the only other Ram to reach double figures, he poured in ten points.

Rams Ideal Start

Looking to pull off a huge upset, URI got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 24-12 lead on a layup and-1 by Cyril Langevine with 8:18 left in the first half.

A key to URI’s success was the defense, as Rhode Island forced Maryland into 14 first-half turnovers.

However, Maryland would regroup.

The Terps rallied to close the half with 23 points over the final eight minutes to take a 30-28 lead on a three from Donta Scott with 1:22 to play in the half.

Maryland would take a 35-32 lead into the break.
