The University of Rhode Island men’s basketball team blew an early ten-point lead and fell behind by as many as 20 points in the second half to the Dayton Flyers.

Rhode Island lost to Dayton 85-77 Wednesday night at the Ryan Center.

The Rams (17-10, 6-9 Atlantic 10) trailed 62-42 following a hoop-and-harm three-point play by Dayton's Enoch Cheeks with 11:18 to go. The Rams fought back to get within six points on four different occasions, but they were unable to complete the rally.

Cheeks is a Providence native who played a portion of his high school career at Mount Pleasant High School in Providence. He finished with 15 points.

The Rams made a little too late run. Jaden House hit a floater in the paint to get Rhody within 81-75 with 1:23 remaining, and the defense forced a turnover moments later. With a chance to make it a one-possession game, Rhode Island turned the ball back over when Jamarques Lawrence tossed a pass to David Green, who was looking away at the moment.

Dayton (19-9, 9-6 A-10) turned the loose ball into two free throws at the other end to ice the victory.
