The University of Rhode Island football team will look to snap a 19-game losing streak against ranked opponents when they visit #15 New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon.

The Rams are 14-81 all-time against ranked opponents.

The Rams enter the game with an overall record of 1-2 on the season following last week’s 17-10 win over Harvard.

"That win was a big boost for Rhode Island, gets them back in the picture this week if they can win this week. Obviously, it will be a tall task going up against New Hampshire who is 15 in one poll and 16 in another," said URI radio play-by-play man Steven McDonald.

"I knew they were going to get better. They have good kids and they have a quarterback that can sling it a little bit," said New Hampshire head coach Sean McDonnell earlier this week.

New Hampshire is 1-1 on the season.

Kick-off is set for 3:35 p.m. The game can be seen on ESPN3

URI vs. New Hampshire

Saturday’s game will be the 92nd meeting between the two programs, with New Hampshire having won the last six games.

The last meeting between the two teams came in 2015 when URI held a 17-0 lead over the Wildcats before losing the game in the second half.

URI’s last win over New Hampshire came in 2010 when Rhode Island held off the Wildcats 28-25.

URI Offense

URI’s offense enters the game averaging 20 points and 380 total yards per game so far this season.

In their last game against Harvard, the Rams scored points in the first half for the first time all season.

The Rams offense is led by Tyler Harris, who ranks third in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) with an average of 235 passing yards per game. His five touchdown passes are tied for fifth in the league.

Last week, Harris threw for 235 passing yards with one passing and one rushing touchdown.

A big target for Harris so far this season has been sophomore wide receiver Aaron Parker, who has at least one touchdown catch in five straight games.

Running back Harold Cooper has racked up 223 rushing yards through the first three games of the season, ranking fourth best in the conference.

His 1,849 career rushing yards ranks ninth in URI history.

URI Defense

The Rams defense is third in the league in takeaways with seven behind Maine, who has 10 and Delaware who has nine.

URI’s six fumble recoveries are the most in the CAA and the second most in the country. The Rams only had six fumble recoveries in 11 games last season.

Leading the way in forcing turnovers has been sophomore Myles Ross.

Ross forced a fumble against Stony Brook and had an interception against Central Michigan.

Cornerback Momodou Mbye leads URI with two fumble recoveries.

Another key to the Rams defense is the play of senior Jose Duncan, who leads the CAA with four sacks over the first three games.

On the season, URI’s defense has given up an average of 25 points and 400 total yards per game.
