URI's "D" Shuts Down George Washington in 59-55 Win

URI Trailed by five ,48-43, with just over five minutes to go in the game when URI's defense flipped the switch to lockdown mode and held George Washington to just one field goal the rest of the way. Meanwhile, the Rams closed the game on a 17-6 run and sealed the win.

Hassan Martin followed up with his fifth double-double, netting 15 points and grabbing ten rebounds.
The Colonials were led by Kevin Larson who netted 15 points in the game.
The Rams return to action on Sunday, February 8 when they travel to Richmond to take on the Spiders. Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m.

Five Takeaways From URI's 59-55 Win Over George Washington
T.J. Buchanan
Neither team got all that much from their bench but the Rams got some solid minutes out of T.J. Buchanan.
Buchanan played 22 minutes and had six points, four assists, one steal and two rebounds.
All six of his points came from the free throw line.
The rest of the Rams bench, Biggie Minnis, Earl Watson and Jarrelle Reischel had six points combined.
Pretty solid day from T.J. Buchanan.
Martin back on track
After not having a great game against Fordham, Hassan Martin got himself back on track against George Washington netting 15 points on 6-0f-10 shooting from the field and grabbing 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season.
Martin also had two steals and three blocks in the game as well.
E.C. Matthews
E.C. Matthews continues to make his way back into form after being sidelined with a leg injury a couple of games ago.
Against George Washington, Matthews netted 10 points on 4-of-12 shooting from the field but went 0-for-6 from three point land.
Matthews also dished out four assists and grabbed two rebounds in the contest.
URI now has a week off so expect to see a much better E.C. Matthews against Richmond.
Jared Terrell
For the third straight game, URI was led by freshman Jared Terrell who netted 17 points on five of nine shooting from the field and seven of seven from the free throw line.
Terrell also grabbed four rebounds and had SIX steals in the game.
Jared Terrell has posted scores of 19, 18 and 17 points respectiveliy over the last three games for URI and with E.C. Matthews a bit banged up, the Rams have really needed it.
Lockdown Mode
URI Trailed by five ,48-43, with just over five minutes to go in the game when URI's defense flipped the switch to lockdown mode and held George Washington to just one field goal the rest of the way.
The one field goal was a three-pointer with six seconds left in the game.
URI forced 21 turnovers, 14 of which came in the first half. Of the 21 turnovers, 12 of them came off URI steals.
We have seen this throughout the season, when the Rams want to, they can take teams and just shut them down and that's what they were able to do against George Washington.
If only they could do it on a more consistent basis.
