“I am deeply honored to step into the leadership role at CTC-RI during such a critical time for primary care,” said Minichiello. “The work CTC-RI is doing to reshape primary care delivery is vital to the Rhode Island community. I look forward to collaborating with our dedicated team and stakeholders to ensure primary care remains the cornerstone of a high-quality, sustainable healthcare system. Together, we will continue to drive meaningful change and innovation in healthcare delivery.”
Minichiello brings a strong track record of developing and implementing multi-payer models that integrate primary care with broader healthcare systems to ensure accessibility, efficiency, and accountability. John has held leadership roles in high-performing Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), integrated delivery networks, and health plans across Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Following his work in large organizations, John transitioned to independent consulting, partnering with providers and payers to improve strategic planning and operational efficiencies in the management and adoption of alternative payment models. His expertise in strategic planning, systems thinking, and team-building will be invaluable as CTC-RI continues its mission of advancing primary care transformation.
“This is a pivotal time for primary care in our state, and we are thrilled to welcome John as our new Executive Director,” said Dr. Elizabeth Lange, CTC-RI Board President. “His leadership, vision, and deep commitment to advancing primary care will be instrumental as we move toward value-based care and expand team-based care programs. John will play a key role in strengthening primary care, advocating for key investments, and ensuring that more Rhode Islanders have access to high-quality care that meets their evolving needs.”
Minichiello succeeds Debra Hurwitz, MBA, BSN, RN, who is retiring after 14 years of dedicated service and leadership. Since its inception, CTC-RI has been at the forefront of transforming primary care in Rhode Island, and Hurwitz has been an essential leader in expanding the organization’s reach, strengthening partnerships, advancing multi-payer primary care models that improve health outcomes, and supporting statewide policy to better support the primary care workforce. CTC-RI extends its deepest gratitude to Hurwitz for her vision, commitment, and lasting impact.
As Executive Director, Minichiello will focus on expanding access to high-quality, comprehensive primary care and ensuring that payment models and new initiatives align with the value primary care brings to the healthcare system. Under his leadership, CTC-RI will continue to champion innovative multi-payer models, foster collaboration across healthcare systems, and advocate for investments in primary care that support providers and improve patient outcomes.
