RI Unemployment Rate Rises to 4.2% in June, Employment Back to Pre-Great Recession Levels

RI unemployment rises to 4.2%
The Rhode Island unemployment rate rose to 4.2 percent in the month of June, up one-tenth of a percentage point from May, announced the RI Department of Labor and Training on Thursday. But overall employment is back up to pre-Great Recession levels. Overall, wages adjusted for inflation continue to lag in the recovery.

“RI is on the move. There are more jobs in RI than ever before and unemployment is below the national average. We’ve recovered all the jobs lost during the Great Recession. Since I took office, we’ve created 14,000 jobs. We still have work to do, but our efforts to rebuild, reinvent and revitalize our economy are working,” said Governor Gina Raimondo on twitter.

Over the year, the unemployment rate is down one and two-tenths percentage points from the June 2016 rate of 5.4 percent.
