Fit for Life: Humbled and Grateful

First, I want to thank Josh Fenton for allowing me this opportunity and platform to deliver my message.

I was at the GoLocal party Tuesday night, where they celebrated moving into their new location, and Josh informed me that my article gets anywhere between 8 - 10k reads per week. I leaned in and asked him, "Is that my article, or are you talking about the entire publication?" He said, "No, that's just your article."
Well, I was blown away, to say the least, as I never know who reads my contribution through the GoLocal platform. However, I know how many people on my email list open my weekly article through my platform, and that number ranges between 1,100 & 1,400 subscribers.
My second moment of gratitude is directed at you, my readers.
You read this on Friday morning through my email list, or you saw it published in Go Local on Saturday morning, and I want to thank you for all your support. I know we all get bombarded with emails daily, and that's why it means so much to me that you take the time out of your busy day to read my message.
That said, I am humbled and grateful for all the opportunities presented to me. I promise to continue striving to improve and deliver helpful content that we can all apply to our daily lives and improve.
In this week's article, I created an acronym BETTER because I assume that's the main reason we seek inspiration and self-development: to live a life of impact and fulfillment. So here it is!!
B- Beware of complacency and mediocrity. It gets easy to fall into this trap. It's human nature to seek comfort and the easy way; however, as I have said, nothing good will come easy. Sometimes when we win, we become complacent and take our foot off the accelerator. Celebrate your wins, but avoid complacency by setting new goals and staying focused on winning the long game.
E- Evolve or die. We are in a society where change is necessary for survival. If you are a person that won't evolve because you do things "the way we always have done it," you will be left in the dust. In my world, things change frequently. Therefore, I need to keep up with my coaching and self-development training if we want to be successful. Some stuff like eating protein & drinking water never change; however, finding ways to implement these things into your daily life efficiently will. Stay focused and embrace change.
T- Time is NOT on your side. When we procrastinate and push what's required down the road, it makes it more challenging to accomplish our goals. The time will never be right, and you will never "find" more time in your day to do what you need to do to get better; you need to make the time. I hear the time excuse frequently: "Now isn't the right time to start working out" or "Work is busy; I don't have the time." My advice is to make the time now, or something will happen, and you will be forced to make the time later.
T- Tactically control your life. This follows up on the time segment. I wrote an article a few weeks back about someone writing the script for your life and that we need to take the pen back and rewrite our own story. Yes, we need to help others, but not at the expense of our health. Don't let someone else dictate how you spend your day or life, as you control your life and destiny.
E- Excellence requires Effort. It will require effort and consistency if you want to be good at anything. When we exert effort, we are destined to succeed. Success is always on the other side of pain, suffering, and sacrifice, and it usually takes all our effort to break through and overcome any adversity that comes our way.
R- Resiliency is mandatory. In life, we will all fail at something and get kicked in the teeth and knocked down from time to time. It's a given, and it will happen. How much resiliency and fast you can get up and bounce back will make the difference.
When asked by one of my peers at a conference, "What's your superpower" without hesitation, I said, "Resiliency and my ability to bend without breaking and bouncing back." The fact that I grew up on the streets of Central Falls had to fight regularly, lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in my lifetime, went to jail, lost both of my siblings at an early age, and rebuilt my business from the ashes of COVID, has helped build my resiliency muscles, and taught me that nothing is impossible to overcome.
Truth be told is that it's in all of our DNA to get better at whatever it is we want to do. The difference will be how much intention you spend on being better. When you make something a priority, put in the effort, and develop a high level of commitment toward your goal, it will come to fruition with time.
Committed to getting better,
Coach Matt
