Fit for Life: Need ENERGY?

Fit for Life: Need ENERGY?

I heard a great line from a speaker at a conference last month: Your frequency is what you frequently see.

Frequency = the energy you put out in the universe, which in turn comes back to influence you negatively or positively.

I turned the word "energy" into an acronym to clarify what to expect from the energy you put out. It will either be positive or negative, so do a self-assessment, have some self-awareness, and decide what you want to receive. Then, either keep doing what you are doing or change the way you carry yourself and amplify your energy levels.

E - Establish an aura around yourself. When I walk into a room full of strangers, they will all know what I do and what I am passionate about when I leave. I have been told in the past that my energy is infectious. However, the truth is that EVERYONE's energy is infectious. Both good and bad, what you put out, you will receive back. I love what I do because it brings out people's best. If you are in one of my boot camp sessions, you can bet you will put out your best effort and leave it all on the floor; if we are talking, I will expose your positive attributes and find something you can do instead of what you can't do. I am a coach, and I wear that title with pride.

N - Negativity attracts negativity. If you put out a negative aura, you will attract negative people into your circle. When I talk to negative people, I feel like all I am doing is counterpunching their statements. They say something negative, and I counter with something positive. After a while, it gets exhausting, so I just sever the talk and move on.

It is easy to fall into that trap because it is easy to find things wrong with the world today. Listening to someone complain long enough drains your energy, and you end up sharing their misery.

E - Enthusiasm will attract positive people or make someone feel good for a minute. Try walking up to a stranger with a frown on their face and say, "Hello, how are you today". Almost 100% of the time, you will get a surprised look, a smile, and a positive response. If the response is negative, I will counter with, "It's a beautiful day, I hope you enjoy it," and then move on. Regardless of that person's mood, I just infused them with some positive energy, and they will carry it for at least a little while. In a restaurant, I always acknowledge the wait staff, busboys, and hosts with a friendly encounter and try to make everyone feel important. Even when I walk into a public restroom, and someone is cleaning it, I give an over-the-top "How are you today? You are doing an excellent job, thank you," and watch their facial expressions perk up because someone acknowledged them.

R - Resist spreading low energy and negative vibes. Even if your day isn't going well, you have aches and pains, are tired, don't let the world know, or take the chance of bringing someone down to your level. In all reality, no one gives a damn, so stop complaining and move on. Do you think anybody cares about you getting stuck in traffic?

Do you think anybody cares that your knee hurts? Do you think anybody cares that you're tired? No, they don't, and you risk putting a damper on their happiness by wallowing and telling everyone your problems. I have several injuries, and my day isn't always sunshine and rainbows, but if you ask me, my response may be, "I am a little dinged up, but life is good." Adopt that same mentality because when you look at the big picture and focus on the wins, your life probably isn't that bad after all, and your ailments aren't worth bringing someone else down.

G - Give, and you will get. Give positive vibes, and you will get them back. Give a negative vibe, and you will install negativity into your life. Look at the people that watch the news regularly. News on both sides of the political spectrum thrives on stirring up shit on the other party. People that watch CNN bitch and complain about what Fox News has to say, and vice versa. Yes, we need to stay informed and know what's going on, but watching the news fills your head with garbage, reflecting the thoughts you carry with you throughout the day.

Y - You are responsible for your thoughts, actions, and the people you hang around with, and you control what you consume daily. That goes with the news situation. When you fill your head with controversy, you become a controversial person. When you read positive self-help books, you strive to improve daily; you give off the same energy to others. The power of the 5 rule is: Take the five people you closely surround yourself with, and you will become a product of your network. I spend a lot of time with my team and members and do my best to pour energy and positivity into them. When I need to fill my cup, I go to a Fit Body, Todd Durkin, or a Project event and come back on fire, ready to take down the world. That is because the frequency in the room is at 10+, so I get to feed off that energy and let it infuse me, so I come home with a new level of motivation that I would never get from a roomful of negative people.

Your energy dictates so much more than you may think. Your energy levels control your mood, productivity, character, and stress and anxiety levels.

I know life is busy, you're tired, and you have your own set of problems.

WE ALL DO; however, that doesn't mean you can't show up with positivity and enthusiasm.

I tell my team to leave their problems at the door when they come to work and BRING THE THUNDER to the members. They are not your therapist; we are theirs, and they come to us for motivation and energy to get through every workout.

Sometimes, it's difficult to turn it on, but never impossible, so give your best effort to be that ball of fire that walks into a room and leaves everyone in a better place.

One of the lines in my creed is: "I leave others better than I found them." If we all adopt that mindset, we will all live a better, more energetic existence.

Committed to your success,

Coach Matt
